James House was established in 1986 with the aim of providing basic needs for children in need in the Hout Bay community. In 1986, James House started as a soup kitchen and a means of providing shelter and protection for children in the community. James House is named after the first boy that received services from James House. His name was James.
Since then James House has grown from strength to strength and able to service more people and more communities. James House has been registered as a Non-Profit Organisation in 2000. Since then, James house has expanded exponentially and now comprises of five essential programmes: Isibindi, B.E.S.T (Building Emotionally Strong Teens, STARS (Systemic Treatment for Adolescents with behavioural challenges in a Residential Setting) and Champions (prevents school dropout and reintegrates children back into school). In 2016, James House has added a training component where internal and external training is offered. James House firmly believes that family preservation and reunification work is key in changing the lives of orphans and vulnerable youth and their families. James House is in a pursuit of child and youth care excellence.
